I was heading down to check some of my game cameras, as I had been watching for a cougar that was apparently in the area. But as I walked down towards the river I noticed a coyote pacing around anxiously on the far bank, after watching him for a moment and capturing a photo, I carried on. When I arrived at the rivers edge I noticed a young mule deer standing on an island in the middle of the river, soaking wet and covered in ice. I then realized what I'd stumbled upon, the coyote had chased the mule deer in to the river and was pacing waiting for it to cross back to land, crazy! Coyotes began howling all through the river valley and the little deer was noticeably upset by the sound. I watched for an hour or more after the coyotes went quiet, the little mule deer finally got up the courage to cross back and make a break for it, I was elated when I watched her trot up in to the forest and hopefully to safety!
